The Community Art Project

The project began
before the snow left.  VitalCare Hospice sent out a call to all Northern Michigan artists to participate in a community art project featuring butterflies, the national symbol of hospice. Each interested party received a packet containinga photograph of the basic aluminum butterfly sculpture, and templates for designing what each would do if selected to interpret the piece in their own way.

Sixteen artists were eventually selected to artistically interpret metal sculptured butterflies.

They painted.

The basic sculpture wing spread is 6 feet.
Many thanks to Tom Moran of Moran Iron Works in Onaway, for his many hours of creating all of the sheet aluminum sculptures.

All of these colorful out-of-doors sculptures will be auctioned at "Metamorphosis,"

a fundraising event set for Thursday, August 7, 2008,

at the Cheboygan Ice Pavilion.

They cut.

They cut and glued tiles and glass.

They put great meaning into their work.

Others in the community have contributed in their own ways, all of them significant.  Click here for a few short "featurettes" on who made those gifts and how they did it!

Little "Butterfly Features"

Here's a page with sights of the day all 16 Butterfly Sculptures were officially presented to the community at large and the artists were lauded for all their hard work.
